Open Source EMR System

I was wondering if anyone has played around with this. EMR systems for reference.

I was looking at some open source solutions. Most of them seem to be geared towards hospitals rather than individuals but that’s okay as long as it works.

Basically, if you’re the US, medical system are f** and there is no single place that has your medical history. I wanted to see if I could keep my own records.

The best non-OSS contender is Microsoft HealthVault or Google Health (Dead).

I’ve run across: http://www.openmhealth.org/ and https://www.open-emr.org/.

I also wonder if anyone knows of any open standards. mhealth looks very promising, I actually ran across it while composing this post.

Questions.

  1. Any suggestion that anyone has tried already and is happy with?
  2. Known adopted open standards? openemr imports data via CSV imports (yuk). There has to be a better way.
  3. Do medical institution elsewhere actually talk to one another? I’ve switched enough insurance and providers that I’m tired of transferring records. I’d like to just have them scan something to send them all the data I manage myself.

If it doesn’t exist, there certainly is a need for something like this.
